Job Purpose
To provide strategic vision and operational IT leadership for the Information Technology Department and be accountable for directing, planning, organising and controlling all IT functions. In addition, the role is responsible for the delivery of a broad range of IT services and sponsors process/system improvements aimed at the efficient and effective provision of IT services.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
Take responsibility for the direction setting and management of IT for the Line of Business Area / Function
Develop strategic plans, aligned with Group IT strategic goals, to meet the information technology needs of the organization and ensure that IT capabilities are responsive to the needs of the company’s growth and operational objectives for the Line of Business/ Function.
Provide the Executive team with advice on medium and long term strategic development of information systems and technology Corporate Strategy for the Line of Business/ Function.
Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures for the Line of Business/ Function.
Prepare annual IT objectives and budgets to facilitate the implementation, management and operations of all information technology functions for business area.
Drive alignment of IT technology, application, data, integration and business process strategy with Group business goals
Promote use of shared capabilities, infrastructure and applications to promote scalability, reduce costs and improve information flows for the Line of Business & or Function.
Facilitate inter-project, inter-process and inter programme IT Architecture integration across the IT Systems landscape.
Facilitate external input and vendor influence on architecture evolution where required.
Provide input, as required, on large-scale projects and road maps for compatibility with the vision
Manage external suppliers
Identify opportunities to outsource, where it makes business and commercial sense to do so (can potentially remove as already indicated above) and consult with authorised parties (e.g. vendor management), in need, to implement necessary arrangements and agreements.
Build and manage long term, sustainable relationships with vendors and managed services to realise IT objectives, in conjunction with shared services and procurement where required.
Negotiate, approve contracts or agreements with external parties, within authorised mandate, in consultation with procurement/vendor management.
Assume overall responsibility for effective Project Management and Delivery capabilities.
Forecast, facilitate, build capacity plans and decide upon appropriate insourcing and outsourcing models to support the strategy as well as short term delivery requirements
Take ownership of program development, planning and execution.
Develop and control program budget.
Identify funding opportunities and build relationships with executives.
Manage timely completion of program deliverables.
Ensure quality (fit for purpose) and accuracy of program work outcomes.
Manage program risk.
Provide quick resolution for problems and roadblocks.
Assume accountability for the delivery of all IT projects for the business units and ensure timely cost effective delivery is achieved.
Monitor business requirements through high level and details designed, implement and roll-out into production.
Assume accountability for the end to end delivery of IT services to the business units and be the leading authority to drive the efficiency and effectives of such project.

Drive sound Financial Management Practices
Lead and drive initiatives around benefits realisation related to the overall technology landscape.
Formulate and gain acceptance for annual revenue and capital budgets for the business unit.
Monitor budgets against expenditure and mange IT costs in line with organisational parameters.
Manage the overall budget and ensure compliance in line with the Groups Long Term Financial Strategy.
Ensure necessary transparency and controls are in place regarding expenditure.
Set the strategy for resource management to respond to business priorities cost effectively.
Authorise at Functional level the allocation of resources for the planning, development and delivery, as appropriate, of services and products.
Deliver quality service through adequate management of change, driving improvement initiatives and use key IT metrics to influence business decisions
Manage change:
Partner with business to co-create business change programs and drive changes to meet strategic and tactical business objectives thereby creating further IT demand.
Focus and drive service improvement initiatives:
Facilitate and drive continual service improvement by consistently aligning the IT service offering to business demands and manage business needs effectively.
Use key IT service metrics to inform IT and Business decisions:
IT spend ratio – measure IT service delivery to enable adequate spend/ budget allocation to business process innovation and general IT maintenance respectively.
Key performance indicators – determines and specify various milestones to reach long and short term goals. Serves as a roadmap for implementation of strategies.
Critical business service metrics – determine business service availability and ensure the best contingency strategies are created to reduce or avoid process malfunctions and improve the sustainability of critical business applications.
Align with the IT Security strategy and improve the security posture.
Embed a risk aware culture by fostering an IT strategy that ensures data privacy rules and data security are at its core.
Manage IT operational risk emanating from systems, processes, procedures and people by implementing effective Disaster Recovery Plans and ensuring alignment with overall Business Continuity Management plans.
Manage Governance and Compliance for Line of Business/ Function
Take responsibility for leading the development of an IT governance framework that will define the working relationships and sharing of IT components among various IT portfolios within the bank and ensure that IT systems and IT employees are regulatory compliant.
Chair relevant Governance Forum in the IT community and ensure the successful running thereof.
Provide leadership at Group Business and IT Line of Business/ Function level
Manage internal and external relationships effectively and forge strategic partnerships to leverage technology and resources that measurably add value for all parties.
Create, build and maintain competencies and capability and provide leadership to the leadership of each area and team/ function.
Provide vision and leadership to the broader IT community including own business area and the inter function data flow to support the Information (Applications, Data and Integration).
Provide thought leadership by injecting experience and intellectual capital to Board Level.
Manage Group Technology business functions
Provide a view of all Group IT Business functions and guides the day-to-day operations, and assures a smoothly functioning, efficient organization.
Specify direction and accountabilities for the Executive team and evaluate performance regularly steering organisational strategic direction.
Support people initiatives that help build a fit for purpose business.
Direct and Lead a culture supportive of change, by engaging and employing activities that drives and supports this.
Ensure the implementation of all human resources policies, procedures and practices within the relevant business unit and monitors compliance with the relevant laws and regulations.
Establish a positive, healthy and safe working environment in accordance with all legislation and regulations.
Recruit, interview and select leaders/senior staff members that have the right technical and personal abilities to help further the organisations mission.
Coach, mentor and develop direct reports to improve overall performance
Discipline senior staff when necessary using appropriate techniques; release senior staff when necessary using appropriate and legally defensible procedures

Take ownership in driving solutions under the AWS well-architected framework. This will help the teams to build secure, high-performing, resilient, and efficient infrastructure for their applications. The five pillars entail; operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, and cost optimization. The Framework provides a consistent approach for customers and partners to evaluate architectures and implement designs that will scale over time.
Ensuring data optimisation, availability, portability and interoperability across a hybrid-cloud strategy.
An enabler of real time streaming microservices architecture at an enterprise-scale.
Comfortable in navigating the highly complex microservices strategy.
Building and working with cross-functional teams that can deliver the business strategy on data enabled AI cloud based microservices with full accountability on all elements pertaining to load-balancing clusters, routing requests to endpoints, orchestrating distributed messaging, sharding storage layers, and facilitating concurrent read and write access etc.
Must develop a close working relationship with the business and data executives to understand, shape and help lead the strategic direction of the enterprise big data strategy and cloud application build.
Champion of internal change and enabler of advanced analytics, AI and digital feature development and omni-channel integration with the highest level of governance.
Preferred Qualification and Experience
Qualifications
Relevant post graduate degree in Business or Information Technology
Experience
More than 10 years’ experience in Information Technology Services (Significant experience managing information technology in a large multi-dimensional corporate environment preferably in the financial industry. Managing large scale change projects from concept to implementation.)
Between 7 to 10 years’ experience in Leadership (Proven ability to have led a business unit and team of managers managing diverse portfolio’s, driving group strategy and translating this to Business level for interpretation and steer of direction.)
Between 7 to 10 years’ experience in Enterprise Architecture (The candidate will have come from a background of full lifecycle design and development covering solution design, application design, development, testing and maintenance, network software, operating systems, multi-tier environments, desktop and workgroup software, middleware, server technology, fault tolerant environments, development tools)
