Brief description

To ensure the efficient functioning and maintenance of Technical/Mechanical Infrastructure for the whole University.

Detailed description

The Successful candidate will be responsible for, among other, the following task:

MAINTENANCE WORK

Oversee and signing off of all executed mechanical jobs as per Job Cards
Coordination of Planned and Reactive Maintenance Service covering full Facilities Management Spectrum on Mechanical Installations;
Chillers/Centralised HVAC System
Variable speed drives
Wet Systems
Responsible for maintenance of Mechanical Equipment in accordance with Maintenance Schedule
Responsible for repair tasks which may involve hand-held devices, machinery and equipment
Overseeing installation of air-conditioning and water reticulation systems, sign-off and certification
Overseeing fitting and commissioning of Mechanical Installations as well as signing-off
Ensure that preventative/emergency fault rectification complies with relevant legislation and SLA’s
HOUSEKEEPING/MACHINERY & EQUIPMENT HANDLING

Correct use and handling of maintenance and repairs equipment as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
Safe handling of machinery and equipment as per (SOP’s)/guidelines
Proper storing of machinery and equipment as per (SOP’s)/guidelines
Identify and report potential problems/faults/hazards on equipment for investigation and repairs
Materials/tools used to be cleaned and stored as per guidelines
Proper housekeeping of work areas

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY AND PROPERTY RISK MANAGEMENT

Ensure that the areas that have been maintained or repaired provide a safe and fit for purpose environment for use by the University community
Attend OHS Training and toolbox talks
Use of PPE’s at all times
Application of Safe Working Procedures
GENERAL

Efficient usage of Maintenance and Repairs Consumables
Material Safety data Sheets (MSDS) to be available and on display at all times
All equipment and consumables are for University related maintenance work only
All work to be carried out in an organized and efficient manner and within allocated timeframes
May be required to work overtime as an when required
Job requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must:

Grade 12
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering/ Operations Management/N6 Mechanical (or in any related Facilities Management Studies)
Project Management Certificate will be an advantage
Electrical Trade Test
Wireman’s License
Licenses:

Valid Driver’s License
Own car
Required Years of Work Related Experience:

3-5 years in Mechanical Maintenance Field/Built Environment
