The main objective of the Centre for Student Recruitment and Career Advice is the recruitment of students for Stellenbosch University. This task is accomplished through a team of advisors who work with prospective students in various school contexts, as well as on the University’s campus itself. The Centre also provides a comprehensive and specialised career development service to prospective students in gr 11 and 12. Due to the fact that gr 10-12 subjects are an important contributing factor in a successful career develoment process, the Centre also provides subject choice guidance to gr 9 learners. Comprehensive individual assessments are used in both career development and subject choice facilitation. The goal of the career advice service is to facilitate informed, relevant career choices, and, in doing so, it supports the recruitment function of the centre as a whole.

Type of appointment:

Each post is a four-year contract appointment. Remuneration and other contractual requirements will be negotiated with each successful candidate.

Duties:

In keeping with the goals of (1) advancing the Centre’s focus on providing career development and assessment opportunities for prospective students, and (2) in doing so contributing to the main goal of successful student recruitment, the following is expected of successful candidates:

The assessment of individual clients for career or subject choice at the Student Recruitment Centre office in Stellenbosch;

·

Involvement in projects run by Career Advice in various schools and other community contexts;

·

The development and implementation of workshops relating to career development and planning;

·

Collaborating with advisors at the Centre;

·

Administrative tasks relating to the above.

Required Skills
Relevant computer proficiency
Language competence in English and Afrikaans

Candidate Requirements

Minimum qualification:

MEdPsig or MA in Psychology or MSc in Psychology, or other relevant qualification;
Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as an Educational or Counselling Psychologist;

Work experience (nature and duration):

A minimum of six months’ practical experience in career and subject choice guidance, and career development work.

Skills:

Relevant computer proficiency;
Language competence in English and Afrikaans.

Recommendations:

Experience in a Higher Education environment;
Accreditation as a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) user;
Proficiency in an additional African language.
