Duties and Responsibilities:

Without restricting the generality of the description above, the Transportation Assistant shall perform such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including but not restricted to the following:

Assemble and track route information and develop route maps as changes occur. Communicate this information to all impacted parties.
Perform ongoing evaluation of route efficiencies, develop strategies for improvement and report suggested changes to the Transportation Manager.
Assist the Transportation Manager with ongoing orientation, training, and evaluation to the drivers and report any concerns to the Transportation Manager.
Educate and ensure driver awareness of Administrative Procedures pertinent to the transportation function. Report areas of concern and non-compliance to the Transportation Manager.
Promote safe work practices in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety, Board Policy, and supervisor’s directives.
Prepare reports as required by the Transportation Manager.
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Transport Manager.

Requirements:

Minimum grade 12 and 3yrs experience in a similar position
Must study towards a Transport Diploma
Forwarding & Clearing knowledge and experience
A valid driver’s license (code 08)
Clear driver’s abstract, criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office products
Strong communication Skills
Must be able to work unsupervised
Must be resourceful and able to find solutions to problems
