A vacancy exists for a Sister-in-Charge

Requirements:

Diploma / Degree in General Nursing (registered with SANC)
Postgraduate qualification in geriatric would be advantageous
Previous experience in taking charge of a frail care unit Is essential
Work experience in a retirement home
Experience as a Sister in charge

Key Responsibilities:

Optimal Resident care
Productivity and teamwork
Administration
Communication
Insisting on high standards of nursing care to meet the needs of the residents.
Planning and initiating nursing regimes to be carried out by junior nurses and according to the ward routine set by the Matron.
Auditing resident’s records in the course of her work.
Providing a safe environment by eliminating medico-legal hazards.
Strict resident confidentiality.
Keeping herself and her subordinates up to date with advances in nursing care.
Acting as a role model.
Maintain constant supervision over the care and attention given to the residents.
Supervise the promotion of independence and mobility of residents.
Ensure that a warm friendly, positive environment exists by encouraging social activities within the Care Centre and providing a listening ear to residents and relatives and informing relatives on a regular basis regarding the condition of the residents
Visits to the hospital if the resident is admitted, if possible, or regular telephonic contact as needed.
To attend meetings of the Residents Committee for the Home and Care Centre.
Responsible for the orientation of new residents to the Care Centre and to the families of these new residents
To ensure that all residents of the Care Centre receive their correct diets.
To supervise the serving of meals
To attend staff meetings.
Ensure all nursing and domestic staff wear correct uniforms, epaulets and badges.
Ensure that attendance registers are completed both timeously and correctly
Shifts as per roster: 06.30 to 18.30
