DESCRIPTION:
The successful candidate will be appointed as the site supervisor, responsible for all construction-related activities of an Engineering Procurement and Contract Management EPCM project and report to the BBE Consulting BBE project manager. The appointee will be required to assume the following legal responsibilities:
Construction manager in terms of Construction Regulation 8.1 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993 as have been amended.
Construction supervisor In terms of Construction Regulation 8.7 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993 as have been amended.
Fall protection plan responsible person In terms of Construction Regulation 10.1a of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993 as have been amended.
Risk assessor In terms of Construction Regulation 9.1 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993 as have been amended.
Furthermore, the appointee will be responsible for managing multiple contractors on construction activities related to additions to an existing process plant. The engineering disciplines that will be managed include
Earthworks excavations and piling
Civil work equipment binds and plinth construction
Erection of structural steel, installation of mechanical equipment and piping GRP piping, fans and scrubber plants
Installation of associated electrical and instrumentation ECI scope of work
The project is situated in a high-level security processing plant and the appointee will be stationed inside this high-security area at all times of appointment.
2 RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of the successful candidate will be the management of all construction-related activities of appointed contractors on behalf of the Client under the EPCM agreement, including:
Manage installation contractors on a standard form FIDIC Federation Internationale des IngeniousConsensus Conditions of Contract for Construction Red Book 1st edition, 1999 contract basis, including
Measuring the performance of the contractor against the project schedule
Keeping daily records of site activities and delays
Measuring the quality of work produced
Enforcing the contract by the timeouts issuing receiving of contractual notices as required
Constant site surveillance of construction works to ensure construction is completed on time and to standard
Reporting of construction progress to the BBE project manager
Reporting of technical difficulties to the BBE lead engineer
Assist in addressing technical difficulties with the BBE lead engineer
Coordination and interaction with the other individuals forming part of the professional team Client and BBE
Attendance of site construction meetings
Participation in Client safety-related initiatives
Management of the BBE site safety officer
Interaction with 3rd party quality inspector
Ensuring an up to date set of project drawings and drawing register are always available on site
Attendance of any contractual dispute resolution or arbitration that may stem out of any of the construction contracts under the management of the candidate.
Responding to, investigating, and reporting on safety-related incidents
Assistance with management of contractors during commissioning and closeout of the project
3 Qualifications
The applicant shall require:
Grade 12
Construction Management qualification NQF level 7
Good working knowledge of the standard form FIDIC Red Book construction contract
Working at Heights training will be advantageous
At least 2 years experience in construction contract management in a mining or process plant environment
Proficient in MS Office and MS Project
Code B drivers license
4 Terms of appointment
The appointment will be on a contractual basis for the duration of the project. The term of appointment will be from 01 March 2020 to 30 November 2020 with the possibility of extension of contract on a month to month basis.
The minimum working hours will be 0700 to 1600 Monday to Friday one hour lunch included with the possibility of overtime at additional remuneration. The successful candidate will be required to arrange the following at their own expense
Transport to and from the site located in Brakpan, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng
Accommodation and sustenance lunch will be provided Monday to Friday
Remuneration shall be market-related and negotiated with the successful applicant. Leave allowance of 1.25 days per month duration of the contract.
