Purpose:
The purpose of this job is to provide counselling services and become an integral part of the broader comprehensive care and treatment counselling in a Non-Clinical site and/or community that links the community into care.
To transport HCT teams and equipment to and from different locations and other duties related to being a driver, including vehicle maintenance, observing all road safety and traffic laws.
Minimum requirements:
Senior Certificate (Grade12/Matric)
Valid Code 10 Driver’s Licence with PDP (Professional Driving Permit)
3 years of driving experience
Accredited training certificates: Basic HIV information course, Intensive Counselling course and Adherence Counselling course
Finger prick certificate
Ability to communicate in Afrikaans, English or another South African language
Clear criminal record
Good communication skills
Key performance areas:
HIV pre-test, post-test counselling and ongoing HIV counselling
Give health education on health-related issues, tasks and presentation
Give support to both infected and affected clients
Provide education on HIV, TB and STI’s prevention strategies
Promote HIV counselling, testing and condom use
Conduct screening for TB & STI’s
Refer all new HIV, TB & STI cases
Introduce a risk reduction plan in the post-test counselling and the ongoing support
Participate in organising HIV/AIDS awareness events
Collect data
Transport HTC teams and equipment to and from different locations
Works as part of a multi-disciplinary teams
Maintains a high standard of professionalism when interacting with clients and health care professionals
Conducts daily vehicle inspections and reports defects to PNC
Adheres to all safety precautions and road ordinances Maintain client confidentiality
Supports community outreach activities
Complies with relevant legislation and organization policies and procedures
Carries out and/or ensures all maintenance is carried out on all vehicles
Mobilizes clients for teams and acts as marshall to ensure order during community outreach activities
Reports for duty punctually
Reports for duty in a presentable manner and/or in the required Organisational uniform
Complies with the Standard Operating Procedures for Vehicles
Knowledge, skills and competencies required:
Ability to counsel using the ACTS method
Must be a respected member of the community
Good communication skills
Good counselling skills
Basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS and TB
Committed and motivated to preventing HIV and supporting people living with HIV
Non- judgemental, trustworthy and empathic
Involvement in some aspect of community work will be an added advantage
