Lecturer: Linguistics/Applied Linguistics
The Department of Linguistics has a vacancy in Linguistics/Applied Linguistics for a suitably qualified candidate at the level of Lecturer who can contribute to research, teaching, and administration. The Department has strengths in the areas of multilingualism, sociolinguistics/semiotics, systemic functional linguistics, and critical discourse analysis.
The Department seeks to appoint an individual who will:
teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in several of these areas as well as s
upervise postgraduate students’ research.
In addition, the candidate is expected to contribute to research both in established and emerging areas of the Department’s interests.
Minimum Requirements
The successful candidate will have a Master’s Degree in Linguistics/Applied Linguistics, but a PhD degree will be advantageous.
The candidate will have a publication record (comprising peer reviewed and/or accredited journals, books or book chapters on reputable presses) commensurate with what would be expected of a Lecturer. Proficiency in or ability to work with African languages (including Afrikaans) is a recommendation.
