Job Description

Minimum Requirements
• Appropriate Social Work Qualification • Registration with the South African Council for Social Services Professional (SACSSP) as social worker. • 4 to 6 years related experience in a tertiary institution • Computer literate

Duties & Responsibilities

• Check waiting list and make appointments with students who have been victims of sexual abuse, violence or other presenting problems requiring intervention • Conduct individual and group therapy as required by students and according to scope of practice/best practice • Work within the scope of practice for specific registration as Social Worker • Abide by the appropriate ethical code for Social Workers and adhere to the values of SPU • Gather information from referral sources for purposes of collateral • Court appearance support for students • Consult with relevant parties to exchange relevant information during the treatment process [e.g. psychologist, parents; police etc.] • Visits/consultations with the police, social services organisations, etc. as and when needed • Court appearance as an expert witness

• Complete reports to indicate whether client can testify in an open court or in camera • Prepare impact reports on the sexual molestation/rape • Prepare reports in support of a protection order or an interdict against an alleged perpetrator • Make appointments • Manage waiting lists • Gather information from referral sources • Prepare and maintain all required treatment records [e.g. referrals, consultation notes] on student file • Complete reports as required • Feedback meetings and reports for stakeholders • Provide statistics and records on time • Participate in strategic planning • Keep abreast of latest developments in own discipline and needs of SPU • Keep abreast of developments in professional conduct within the discipline • Register as a member of professional bodies to keep abreast of all developments

• Engage in current professional development activities e.g. acquire further qualifications and ongoing development required by professional body • Attend and participate in professional activities • Participate in in-house training programmes/workshops run by SPU in order to keep abreast of new social work, mental health care developments/practice/ knowledge • Assist with the development and implementation of projects • Assist in scoping project plans related to identified interventions • Feedback meetings • Compile and submit reports/ statistics to management and relevant stakeholders as required • Provide feedback to SPU management on systemic issues and problems negatively affecting clients
