About the Financial Accountant position:
We are looking for a financial accountant to join Root’s Finance team. Root is a fast-growing tech startup and we’re on a mission to build the future of insurance. You’ll be working in a high-performance team, you’ll be surrounded by passionate and supportive teammates, and you will constantly learn and grow.
As part of Root’s Finance team, you will be responsible for the company’s day-to-day financial operations. In addition to that, you’ll provide data and reports to enable informed financial decisions.
This full-time role is based at our De Waterkant office in Cape Town but will be fully-remote during COVID-19.

What you’ll do
Manage day to day financial operations such as client invoicing, supplier payments and payroll.
Ensure accounting work is accurately performed by external providers.
Prepare management accounts, budgets, forecasts and reconciliations.
Ensure that insurance premiums on the Root Platform are accurately monitored, reconciled and reported to insurance companies.
Manage operational bank accounts.
Ensure that compliance requirements (according to CIPC and the FSCA) are met and well documented.
Ensure Root’s office is well organised and equipped, and a place where team members love to be.
What you’ll need:
Accounting qualification (CIMA, SAIPA, CA qualification beneficial).
Minimum of 3 years experience as a financial accountant.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy of output.
Extremely well organised and skilled at managing financial processes and controls.
Highly analytical and skilled at Excel and/or Google Sheets.
Well, articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Driven to achieve a high level of personal execution.
