Microbiologist needed immediately: APPLY HERE

Purpose of the job:

To improve the quality of the finished products, by analyzing, controlling, troubleshooting and improving the quality of brewing materials, the brewing process, and finished product.

Analyse and improve customer satisfaction by performing surveys and handling customer complaints.

Key performance areas:

Quality Assurance:

Ensures consistent and accurate microbiological analysis.

Ensure accurate microbiological techniques in compliance with Heineken laboratory standards.
Maintain microbiological testing to conform to sampling plan.
Ensure timely analysis and reporting to ensure no delays to production.
Maintain laboratory information systems.

Process Improvement:

Drive microbiological improvement at Sedibeng Brewery.

Assess process capability with respect to microbiological control and determine ability to meet agreed performance outputs.
Develop and implement actions to address areas where processes are found not to be capable of producing high microbiological control.
Provide expertise to TPM, PQ improvement teams to improve microbiological control.
Identify opportunities, initiate and manage appropriate actions to improve microbiological control.
Document, communicate and monitor process changes to improve in plant microbiological control.
Analyse and trend microbiological information and initiate appropriate action.
Execute specific improvement projects.

Laboratory Maintenance:

Maintain the microbiological laboratory to a professional standard.

Maintain microbiological testing equipment and facilities to comply with Heineken standards.
Ensure calibration schedules are kept to schedule.
Ensure compliance with laboratory best practices.

Staff Development:

Assist development of Brewing and Packaging Staff with respect to microbiological control and basic hygiene.

Monitor and communicate process outputs using visual management techniques.
Participate in brewing and packaging performance discussions with respect to microbiological control.
Analyse the suggestions and improvement opportunities identified by team members during team meetings and work sessions.
Communicate and facilitate the implementation of new standards and the removal of redundant standards.
Facilitates Formal Problem Solving, provide technical expertise and documents the process and results.
Facilitate implementation and coaching of technical recommendations.
Facilitates Decision Making Process and provide technical expertise to improve microbiological control.
Coach staff in basic hygiene and food safety.

Safety, Health and Environment:

Ensure a safe working environment and practices within the different requirements.

Ensure safe laboratory practices including safe chemical handling and storage.
Ensure safe disposal of all completed microbiological samples.
Analyse and trend brewing information and initiate appropriate action.
Identify and eliminate all unsafe, unhealthy and environmentally damaging conditions and work practices.
Ensure compliance to ISO9001 standards.
Promote safety awareness.
Ensure the department operates within company SHE standards and OHS Act, through continued education and training and obtaining the co-operation and commitment of all staff to observe all safety rules, procedures and processes in order to drive zero accident mentality.

Job Requirements

Education:

National Diploma in Microbiology or any other related science.

Experience:

At least 3 years’ experience in the brewing industry including operational roles.
