TB HIV Care (THC), in existence since 1929, is an internationally recognised non-profit organization. TB HIV Care provides health care services throughout South Africa to both the general population and communities at increased risk for HIV and TB, including adolescent girls and young women, sex workers and people who use drugs.

Purpose of the position

The driver mobiliser will transport the team and all equipment to and from different locations. Other duties include mobilisation and vehicle maintenance. The driver mobiliser must observe and obey all road safety and traffic laws.

Main job tasks, duties and responsibilities:

Ensure that all safety precautions are adhered to
Inspect the vehicle and report any issues or defects to the relevant manager
Maintain a daily transportation log and ensure petrol slips are submitted on a weekly basis
Comply with relevant legislation and the organisation’s policies and procedures regarding vehicle maintenance
Ensure that during outreach activities, the staff and vehicle are secure
Maintain client confidentiality and support community outreach activities
Conduct mapping and site profiling
Document findings and submit mapping tool to data capturer
Ensure the latest emergency numbers are listed in the vehicle
Comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for vehicles
Undertake transportation of resources, lab work and staff as required by the site
Physically assist on-site with manual tasks when required by the site such as carrying boxes and equipment
Ensure regular vehicle services, maintenance and renewal of licence registration disc
Ensure that THC’s vehicles are kept neat and tidy at all times (including washed when required)
Report delays, accidents or other traffic situations to passengers and managers
Observe road and traffic rules
Mobilise men, adolescents and young adults in the supported area to improve primary healthcare service uptake especially for HIV, STI and TB services; motivate men to access VMMC, HTC and TB screening and to use condoms
Organise and facilitate health promotion programmes for the community

Education and experience:

Grade 12
Valid driver’s licence – code 10 and PDP
Experience working with vulnerable people
Proficiency in English, Afrikaans or isiXhosa languages

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Very good reasoning ability
