In delivering ‘social science that makes a difference’ in South Africa and the region, the Research Programmes of the Human Sciences Research Council initiate and undertake policy-oriented research projects and programmes from its offices in Cape Town, Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Pretoria. Its public-purpose mandate is set out in the Human Sciences Research Council Act No.17 of 2008.

The incumbent will be responsible for the electrical services which support the HSRC building. Performing the day-to-day maintenance of plant and equipment and assisting with electrical repairs to plant and other material handling equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure day to day maintenance of plant and equipment.
Assist with electrical repairs to plant and other material handling equipment.
Ensure ongoing preventative maintenance.
Ensure fault rectification complies with legislation.
Ensure investigations, evaluations and resolution of problems are identified inclusive of Health and Safety measures are adhered to.
Coordinate and plan maintenance and servicing of LT, HT, and Transformers.
Changing of lighting bulbs in various offices, locations in the HSRC Building
Oversee new electrical installations
Test and document electrical functioning.

OHS

Ensuring an understanding and awareness of Occupational Health, Safety, and environmental protection in the workplace.
Department inspections/audits and weekly safety talks.
Ensuring a solid understanding of and adhere to Lock-out/Tag-out (LOTO) procedures.
Ensure a review of safety devices is conducted on the machine and report immediately if a safety device may be faulty.
Ensure an understanding of all high risks present in and around the production plant.
Ensure a solid understanding of machine safety components and ensure that machine safety checks and maintenance are conducted on a regular basis.
Ensure all incidents/accidents are reported to immediate Supervisor or First Aider.
Ensure Maintenance HSE processes and procedures are being adhered to.

Other

Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations.
Install, examine, replace, or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components.
Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance.
Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.

Requirements

Key Requirements:

Relevant Tertiary Qualification (N3-N6/National Diploma in Electrical Engineering Studies).
Electrician Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal).
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in an industrial environment.
Experience with Light and Heavy duty electrical systems
Experience with Siemens S7 hardware (advantageous).
Drivers License code 8 or 10
