Umgeni Projects is a company that specializes in Fuel Station Refurbishments and other building construction work.

We are looking for HSE Officers that are willing to work on a contract bases in local and some remote sites.

The HSE Officer must have the following minimum qualifications:

SACPCMP Registered.
SAMTRAC or equivalent training.
Incident Investigation Training course
Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment Certificate
Working at heights Certificate
Computer Literate
At least 3 years’ relevant construction and fuel industry safety experience;
Successful completion of a Supervisors training course.
Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations. (Legal Liability)
Sound knowledge of hazard identification and risk management processes.
Sound knowledge of incident investigation procedures.
Valid First Aid Certificate
Have a Valid Driver’s License & Own Transport

In addition, a proven track record with respective Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and good standings in all relevant health and safety training is required. The Health, Safety & Environmental Officer is responsible for the coordination of the site’s HSE responsibilities as per Respective Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

The Health, Safety & Environmental Officer is responsible, but not limited to the following duties:

Informing employers and workers of the hazards created (e.g. toolbox talk);
Conduct site safety orientation, addressing site-specific hazards and Health, Safety & Environmental program-level requirements and maintain attendance logs and records.
Coordinating first aid, emergency transportation provisions, and evacuation marshaling station;
Informing workers of construction procedures designed to protect the health and safety of workers at the workplace;
Enforcing and adhering to Client’s health and safety standards
Ensuring all site personnel and visitors has received the proper training and medical clearance prior to entering the site.
Daily updating/notifying the Construction Manager and HSE Manager about HSE specific issues.
Conduct hazard identification and risk assessment, evaluation and development of safe work procedures throughout the duration of the work activities
Conduct or have conducted a hazard analysis and take the necessary corrective action.
Ensure all incidents and near misses are properly recorded, reported and investigated.
Ensure Health and Safety Representatives conduct weekly inspections and submit the required reports.
Ensure Umgeni Projects and the contractors comply with the health and safety specifications.
Issue non-conformance’s and keep a record of the same where required.
Assist with the implementation of the fall protection plan.
Where it is not possible to remove any remaining hazard/s you are to inform employees thereof and what precautionary action is to be taken.
Ensure appropriate restoration of areas affected by construction.
Detail mitigating measures required to be taken, and the procedures for their implementation to the Project Manager and HSE Manager.
Establish the reporting system to be undertaken during construction and ensure effective reporting to management on the deviations identified and required action to be taken.
Ensure Environmental Management Plan compliance.
Ensure monthly and weekly Safety, Health, and Environmental statistical reports are submitted to the relevant Managers.
Ensure the implementation with the Company System Procedures for Health, Safety, and Environment.
Ensure statistics are maintained on-site regarding accidents, injuries, man-hours, lost time and risk assessments.
Ensure that all files and paperwork for the completed sites is scanned, put onto a memory stick and sent to the branch office for future reference.
Ensure that the Golden Helmet Reward system is implemented and Golden Helmet monthly reports are sent to the Branch Manager and the HSE Manager.
Conduct Weekly Inspections.
Ensure Daily Documentation is Completed and up to standard.
Ensure personnel protective equipment this is being worn is correct for the work activities being performed.
Ensure that the sites have enough spare personnel protective equipment.
Order personnel protective equipment if necessary.
Ensure Housekeeping is done on each site and that the sites are presentable at any given time.
Ensure that all emergency equipment is inspected and is valid.
Conduct site establishment according to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and or Client Standards whichever is the strictest.
Ensure that Daily Toolbox Talks are conducted.
Ensure that Planned task observations (PTO) or Talk Not Tick (TNT) are conducted on a weekly Basis.
Ensure that the onsite Notice Board is updated.
Conduct walkabouts on site on a daily basis 80% of the time should be spent on site.
Conduct monthly emergency drills on site with an applicable scenario.
Ensure those site office posters, drawings and other relevant documentation is put up during site establishment.
Ensure that safety signs are put up on the day of site establishment.
Ensure that site safety file is ready for audits at any given time.
Ensure that site safety kit is kept up to date.
