Hollywood Sportsbook Holdings (Pty) Ltd has an exciting opportunity available for an Occupational Health and Safety Officer to be based in Umhlanga, Team Support Office. The purpose of the role will be to co-ordinate the Occupational Health and Safety function for the group nationwide.

Minimum Requirements:

Comprehensive knowledge and practical understanding of the following:

ISO 9001, 14001 & OHSAS 18001.

Occupational Health and Safety Act 95, 199.

Compensation of Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act 130, 1993.

NOSA CMB 253N.

Advantageous: Relevant Degree/Diploma.

Responsibilities:

Ensure the company is in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993.

Monitoring and reporting of unsafe situations and assisting in the implementation of improvements.

Prepare safety statistics and liaise with external safety organizations.

Ensure that all the necessary health and safety procedures are in place within the company,

Ensure all team members, or contractors and their employees, comply with the requirements of the OHS Act, as well as any individual or any person on the premises under the company’s control, where plant or machinery is used.

Promote occupational health and safety on site and assist in developing safer and healthier ways of working, ensuring that every team member is made aware of the responsibility to take reasonable care for their own health and safety, and of other persons who may be affected by his/her acts or omissions.

Ensure that personal protective equipment, such as safety shoes are being used in workplaces according to the regulations.

Inspect and identify work areas for potential accidents and health hazards.

Ensure that in terms of the OHS Act, the company provides and maintains, as far as is reasonably practicable, a working environment that is safe and without risk to its team members, and complies with all legislation in relation to the use of its plant, equipment, and substances in all workplace activities.

Capturing and/or compiling of health and safety reports.

Report any incident in which a person was deceased, became unconscious, suffered the loss of a limb or part of a limb, or was injured, or become ill, to such a degree that he was likely to die or to suffer a permanent physical defect or be unable to work, or continue with the activity with which he was busy at the time of the incident for a period of 14 days, and which arose out of incidents which occurred at a workplace or consequent upon the use of machinery.

Report any major incident that has occurred or where a dangerous substance is spilt, where there is the uncontrolled release of any substance under pressure or where machinery or any part, fractures or fails and results in flying, falling or uncontrolled moving objects, or where machinery runs out of control, when the health or safety of any person was endangered.

Attend meetings, seminars, workshops and/or training courses that enhance and provide knowledge on OHS matters.

Implementation and administration of safety systems, for example: Legal compliance assessments, construction regulations, and ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.

Ensure that investigations of accidents/incidents and unsafe working conditions are conducted, study possible causes and recommend remedial action.

Ensure SHE Awareness is conducted for team members that are site based.

Conduct regular site appraisals of premises and housekeeping, electrical, mechanical and personnel safeguards, fire protection, and security standards.

Maintain risk register, and ensure that risk assessments are completed for all activities with significant risks.

Ensure risk assessments in order to identify all hazards.

Ensure recommended control measures are effective and make recommendations where they are not.

Receive and investigate reports of accidents, dangerous occurrences, and fire damage, determine their causes and make recommendations for improving recurring prevention and controls.

Identify unsafe acts, conditions, and hazards. Investigate root causes and identify corrective and preventive actions, and report to management.

Communicate frequently with management to report the status of the site’s occupational health and safety performance.

Maintain effective communication with Regional Managers, liaisons and affected parties, and always communicate any changes that may, or have occurred in the occupational health, safety, hygiene environment.

Anticipate, identify and evaluate safety hazards or conditions arising from workplaces.

Examine ways to improve Health and Safety standards.

Identify risks before they result in an accident.

Organize SHE monthly branch meetings with various divisions/business units.

Ensure that all safety requirements are met in the branches.

Encourage and educate team members to take precautions and adhere to safety rules to protect themselves and the equipment they use against any damage.

Ensure all first aid boxes are fully equipped and stocked.

Ensure all fire extinguishers are clearly marked, operational and regularly serviced.

Ensure all fire exits are clearly marked.

General administrative duties with regards to safety.

Conduct Induction sessions for new team members, concerning safety requirements to ensure that such personnel are fully aware of the precautionary measures which should be taken and observed, with regard to any identified hazards.

Review the effectiveness of safety measures.

Identify hazards at the workplace.

Investigate complaints by other team members.

Participate in consultations with Inspectors at the workplace.

Participate in internal health or safety audits.

Facilitate investigations of incidents/accidents.

Attend formal inquiries.

Ad hoc functions as needed.
