Job Purpose
To take full responsibility for the overall management, control and utilisation of all software assets used across the group to ensure optimal usage. This includes ongoing alignment and engagement with the major software suppliers and the Group Information Technology executives.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
Establish, lead and drive the Software Asset Management capability for the Standard Bank Group
Establish, communicate and enforce Group Information Technology (IT) Software Asset Management (SAM) policies, processes and procedures through the lifecycle of the Software asset
Define and implement the ongoing and long-term strategic management of software within the organisation, which includes planning, monitoring, and recording software licenses to ensure compliance with vendor contracts
Collaborate with key stakeholders within enabling Group functions and Group IT to ensure that services offered are relevant, timely, of appropriate quality and cost-effective
Establish management processes that ensure a commercial focused approach is implemented to business, including planning around key business cycles, selecting appropriate products
Support initiatives lead by the SAM Head through the direct and indirect engagement with C Level IT executives across Standard Bank as well as those from third party IT vendors
Identify and assess the best practices that will contribute to success of the capability
Manage the planning, effective utilisation of resources and costs of the capability
Act as a mentor and coach to individuals looking to pursue an IT asset management career path
Manage the software asset portfolio for hte Standard Bank Group to ensure efficiency and cost effectiveness
Actively lead the overall planning and management of the multi-faceted components of Software across the group covering the complete software asset lifecycle, identifying software license optimisation opportunities
Define and execute upon the global business case for Software Asset Management transformation extending across 17 countries for all software product vendors and resellers in using >1000 Software products
Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture influencing the technology strategy to ensure viability and sustainability of the proposed software products from the asset management perspective
Ensure that the electronic software license and entitlement inventory is maintained by directing the relevant resources
Manage the approved processes in software asset management
Engage with the various Operational functions utilising the various software products to ensure vendor contractual obligations are maintained and delivered on
Oversee delivery of contracted, structured reporting to stakeholder groupings in accordance with agreed timelines
Partner with Group IT and Group Vendor Management & Procurement to identify and execute savings or cost avoidance opportunities
Ensure effective risk and financial management relating to software asset management for the Standard Bank Group
Monitor contract renewals timeframes ensuring that all software contract renewals are completed in time to avoid late payment penalties
Accountability for the annual software budget management for the Standard Bank business in South Africa (in conjunction with Group IT Finance), ensuring adequate funds are provisioned to meet software investment and contract obligations annually
Provide input to the monthly SAM Cost Centre Information Management Packs (Business Unit and Consolidated level)
Maintain a current and accurate schedule of all software entitlements across Group, ensuring effective management of the allocated annual software budget
Ensure in-house audits are conducted to provide quarterly sample extracts and an annual audit of the complete entitlements
Lead proactive contract compliance reviews on software utilisation, ensuring that the Bank is adequately licensed for all software deployed
Manage third party and vendor led audit reviews on the Group’s software compliance position
Lead negotiations with vendors on compliance matters and provide recommendations to the SAM Head
Consult on risk mitigation and problem solving facilitating risk management by the relevant teams recommending alternative approaches and action
Analyse and remediate audit findings by defining and implementing management actions in consultation with the Group IT Executive community
Provide thought leadership, insights and effective stakeholder management
Influence Group decision making and processes whilst aligning Group IT policies, processes and systems with Group policies and standards in consultation with Group stakeholders
Provide expert advice and guidance to the Office of the CIO and CTO communities on contractual matters, driving the most appropriate commercial outcomes for Group IT
Collect, consolidate and communicate detailed reports and key vendor data to stakeholders on vendor performance, risk and relationships
Keep IT vendor managers/procurement and business operations updated about information gleaned from market investigation reports on sourcing methods, products and potential vendors
Provide expert consulting across Group IT , with specific reference to Architecture imperatives and project deliveryServe as a single point of contact and thought leader to senior stakeholders and executives on matters relating to Software Asset Management
Operate across functional disciplines of Finance, Risk, Legal, Procurement, Architecture, Infrastructure and Businesslandscapes as it relates to Software Asset Management, fostering strong working relationships
Contribute to the effective functioning of the Group Information Technology Operating Unit
Participate in the COO management committee as a standing member, representing insights into the SAM of the Group, influencing strategies and recommendations to the Group IT Executive committee
Participate in strategic initiatives, such as Accelerate Programme, shaping and influencing approaches to achieve cost saving targets
Demonstrate a solid ability to articulate major issues and challenges surrounding the IT industry and operating capabilities
Drive a culture of continuous improvement and foster innovation within the functions and teams
Embrace servant leadership and act as role model for the desired culture
Line manage the Software Asset Management Team
Provide strategic direction to the team by leading and guiding their output in line with the delivery and business objectives
Perform overall line management functions in accordance to the HC guidelines:
Develop a high performing team by embedding the bank’s performance process, regular performance feedback and coaching. Address poor performance.
Motivate team members and ensure that they receive recognition for performance excellence by allocating the annual increase and bonuses
Determine development needs of the team and ensure that development opportunities (training, rotation, on-the-job learning) are budgeted for and executed
Maintain a succession plan for the team by reviewing the skills of the team at least twice a year and having career conversations with them
Participate in talent sourcing processes to recruit new members of the team, including Influencing determination of suitable remuneration practices for employees
Act as the escalation point for the management of improvement of performance and development of functional resources
Ensure that disciplinary action and grievances are addressed and aligned to the Standard Bank policies and procedures
Ensure professional development management (Skills matrix management / PDP). This is achieved through building organisational capabilities through evaluating likely future requirements and ensuring that individuals are provided with the best possible development opportunities in line with these.
Create an environment in which learning and continuous development are emphasised and valued, whilst taking personal responsibility for coaching and mentoring others

Preferred Qualification and Experience

Qualifications
Relevant Tertiary Degree in Information Technology and Computer Sciences
Experience Required
More than 10 years knowledge in Information Technology
Good working knowledge and experience with the implementation and management of capabilities and frameworks within a corporate environment. Significant expererience in providing operational, logistical governance and control functions for a large business unit, company or multinational organisation
Between 5 – 7 years experience in Business Partnering in Business Partnering and Service Management
Needs to have detailed insight and experience in all aspects associated with the management of an IT business unit, in a large financial organisation. Experience in engaging with a broad spectrum of stakeholders including senior executives. Knowledge of standard business processes including work prioritization, best practices. Service management background with specific involvement with the management of software.
Between 5 – 7 years experience in Software Asset Management
At least 5 years of experience within the Banking industry. Possesses working knowledge of general corporate business practices, government and commercial regulations and principles, and accounting and finance principles. Working knowledge of the interactions between departments/disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact asset management processes. Understand Global Asset Management strategies across the Bank.
Between 3 – 4 years experience in Operations, Risk and Governance
Diverse experience in the running of the IT business, ranging from IT Operations, Architecture, Design, Project Delivery, Commercials and Financial management. IT industry experience, Software asset management, vendor management and or commercial background.

Knowledge of procurement policies and procedures and ability to procure high-quality products and services for the Bank on advantageous terms
Supplier Relationship Management
Knowledge and application of tools and methods to monitor the effective delivery of suppliers and to gain maximum value from supplier services.
Financial Acumen
Knowledge and understanding of costing, budgeting and finance concepts and the understanding and application of related processes and procedures.
