Job Description
Shell South Africa Refining (Pty) Ltd is looking to give an attorney an opportunity to work as a Legal Counsel.
Position purpose:
Professional, timely, cost-effective and practical legal advice and support to the Shell Downstream business in South Africa encompassing Manufacturing, Retail, Global Commercial and Trading & Supply businesses.
Principal accountability:
Legal advice and support to the Downstream business.
Reactively identify legal risks and alternative strategies in a defined area.
Ensure documents reflect accurately commercial decisions, at all times consistent with legal
obligations and the Shell Control Framework.
Represent Shell vis-à-vis third parties.
Instruct and manage external counsel.
Special challenge:
A high-volume practice that requires one to be flexible and support other members of the team
Salary:
Commensurate to experience.
Requirements:
Experience and qualifications required:
Admitted attorney
Law degree and professional legal qualification
Strong academic background and capable of applying jurisprudence in real situations
Good verbal and written communication skills
Good drafting skills
Fluent written and spoken English
Knowledge of commercial law, company law
Knowledge of marketing and advertising law, competition law and data privacy law is an advantage
Influencing, negotiating and facilitation skills
Ability to work as part of a team
