Responsibilities:

Identify and respond to the social needs of the target communities through social assessment and intervention according to the scope of the project
Develops and maintains a functional network of partner organizations and authorities for the operational needs of the SGBV clinics and community-based programmes; maintains a strong link with MSF’s internal network (medical/mental health team, health promotion team)
Make home visits when required in order to conduct an environmental and ecological assessment of the survivors’ living circumstances (Home visits will be required when dealing with vulnerable children and adults);
Participate as a fully-fledged team member within the context of a multidisciplinary team of health professionals; participate in health promotion activities and various other programmes (school programme) as and when required
Conduct safety risk assessments and facilitate the placement of survivors to places of safety, rehabilitation centres; hospitals or clinics;
Carries the overall responsibility for inbound and outbound client referrals from and to SGBV clinics as well as from and to surrounding NGOs and CBOs. Ensures proper hand-over of the client and case-related documentation, ensures all necessary services are provided, follows-up and delivers timely feed-back traces defaulters if required, contact patients to follow up the evolution of their condition when needed (home visits; family conference sessions)
Maintains a close and regular collaboration and exchange of information within the various MSF teams,; participates and provides input to team meetings and case discussions
Serve as patient advocates within the community ensuring that human rights are upheld and that medical, psychological and social care is accessible to all
Provide individual and group support interventions to members of key populations through various community based social work interventions
Refer clients to CTOP services,
Identify and Provide training of focal persons, community activists, peer educators, social workers, social auxiliary workers, and volunteers (based at CBOs and NGOs) on SGBV, Safe Abortion Care, and other health topics
Work closely with the Health Promoter in the Community to create supportive environments.
Promote CTOP services within key population communities (migrant populations, asylum seekers, girls and women
Observes all ethical aspects and client confidentiality at all times
Ensures complete documentation of all cases; provide reports weekly or as requested
Designs and implements training sessions on various health promotion topics

Requirements:

Essential:

Degree Social Work, and registered with the SACSSP
Minimum 2 year of experience as a Social Worker
Deep knowledge of the referral network for social services within the Bojanala district, NW Province, specifically Rustenburg
Ability to prioritize and plan different concurrent activities (networking, patients follow-up, referrals. etc.)
Excellent organizational skills, communication skills, cultural sensitivity, open-mindedness, patience, diplomacy, and flexibility
Willingness to work closely with local staff and community
Ready to travel on regular basis within the project area
Fluent written and spoken English and Setswana
Community involvement and personal experience showing a willingness to adhere to the humanitarian principle of Médecins Sans Frontières
South African citizen or holder of a valid South African work permit
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
