Job Description:

The purpose of this role is to provide overall technical input on structural designs in programmes and projects, ensuring standards and guidelines are in place, providing input and guidance on specifications and drawings, and supporting the Central Technical in achieving its objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
The Civil/Structural Engineer will be required to provide input for and quality assurance to IDD projects and programmes as follows: Core Functions • Work with technical teams such as Project Engineers, Project Managers, Project Architects to support design development. • Provide occupation and profession civil and structural inputs and quality control. • Liaise with other designers, including architects, to agree on safe designs and their fit with the aesthetic concept of the construction. • Examining structures at risk of collapse and advising how to improve their structural integrity, such as recommending removal or repair of defective parts or rebuilding the entire structure. • Making drawings, specifications and computer models of structures for building contractors. • Preparation of specifications, proposal and other tender documentation.

• Applying expert knowledge in complex building design problems using the latest technology in design methods. • Develop governance standards, procedures, process and guidance documents to architects and professionals appointed on projects. • Determine engineering service requirements. • Formulating and translating the brief from a client into to a scope of works. • Apply critical analysis skills and detail orientated to ensure that design proposals comply with briefs and scoping documents. • Use computers and computer-aided design (CAD) technology for simulation purposes. • Provide technical consulting services for the operation on engineering related matters to minimize possible engineering risks. • Approve submittals and support RFI responses during construction administrations. • Communicate with clients, use project workflow documents, attend client interviews, estimate man-hours, and assist in the preparation of proposals. • Interface with relevant stakeholders as required.

• Establish internal discipline-specific documentation processes. • Monitor quality assurance procedures and monitor implementation thereof by the other consultants and the contractors. • Monitor and practical completion lists and the certificate of practical completion. • Co-ordinate and monitor rectification of defects. • Manage operations and maintenance manuals, guarantees and warranties. • Any other responsibilities that might arise and aligned with the job profile. Expertise & Technical Competencies
• Engineering degree (BEng / BSc / BTech degree in Civil Engineering). • Competencies in Structural and general Civil Engineering. • Compulsory registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer / Technologist. • 10 years Post qualification relevant working experience. • Experience in working in multi-faceted and large scale projects. • Drivers License code 08. Skills & Knowledge • Sound knowledge of civil and structural engineering design and analysis. • A solid background in the design of building structures, with experience in all material types e.g. reinforced concrete, structural steel masonry and timber. • Engineering, legal and operational compliance. • Programme and project management. • Process knowledge and skills. • Computer-aided engineering applications. • Knowledge of relevant Acts on infrastructure development. • Understanding of government priorities, systems and processes at national and provincial level.
