Synopsis:

The Theatre Unit Manager will be responsible for coordinating and Organising theatre to ensure a safe therapeutic environment, by ensuring compliance to professional and ethical practices.

Job Description:

Services to patients cannot be improved if operating theatres are seen in isolation. The
patient’s surgical journey is complex and crosses many boundaries. Improving operating
theatre performance must be seen in the context of a wider system, including pre-operative
assessment, elective and emergency admissions, bed management and discharge planning and competencies and people management.

Discuss theatre performance each quarter, eg focusing on:
– Achievements and/or lack of progress against targets.
– Action for improvement.
– Matching demand and capacity for emergency and elective work for each specialty, including how any backlog will be dealt with
Theatre Management Group is responsible for ensuring that theatre policies are agreed,
adhered to and kept up-to-date.

Manage HR costs in such a way as to ensure cost effective quality care including overtime and temporary staff
To be equipped with the necessary skills required to lead a Multi disciplainary Theatre complex on two sites
Manage all costs emanating from the theatre
Assist with Theatre bookings, preparation of patiednts for procedures, patient recovery, CSSD etc.
Interview, appoint and retain staff

Education:

A relevant nursing qualification – Diploma in General Nursing( NQF Level 6) or B Cur Degree (NQF Level 7)
Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse
Compliance with SANC code for a Registered Nurse and all applicable health care legislations
Diploma Operating Room Science

Work Experience:

3 -4 Operating Theatre experience
An intermediate level of computer literacy
Experience in OT management
Experience in Clinical leadership
Sound financial knowledge and the ability to interpret financial data

Knowledge:

The capacity to implement and maintain standards of health practice required from all accredited bodies and appropriate health legislation
