VACANCY- LABORATORY ASSISTANT

LOCATION Bayer, Lichtenburg, Biotechnology Laboratory Thobontle

RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct various tests according to procedures in each department in the laboratory as required and scheduled providing timely, reliable and accurate results.

The undermentioned tasks are a broad guideline of the contents of this specific job. It does not exclude more specific or other tasks that might be required from one’s line manager to achieve Bayer Crop science ‘s goals as incorporated in the strategy. This strategy is built on four main pillars namely: Securing the base; Future growth ;
Freedom to operate and creating a winning environment

 Verify information on samples and work cards correlate to ensure accuracy of results and traceability.
 Identify hybrids to ensure al required tests are performed as per trait.
 Perform DNA Extractions
 Genotyping Assays
 Practical knowledge of running HPLC samples

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:

 Preparing of samples for the various test analysis required.
 Attain GLP (Good Lab Practises)
 Adhere to site PPM
 ESH, Housekeeping, PPE and Basic Lab rules
 Monitor analytical processes and take remedial action where deviations/discrepancies arise impacting on the quality of analytical results
 Record accurate results and calculations to ensure compliance of product releases.
 Responsible in ensuring all lab equipment are used and well maintained according to the maintenance schedule.
 Assistance in the Physiology lab is required when needed.
 BSc degree, MSc would be advantageous
 Chemistry, Microbiology, Mathematics, Biology, Physical Science, Biochemistry

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

 Fluent in English: Read, Write and Speak
 Practical experience with HPLC operations
 Basic computer skills: Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint
 BSc Degree/Diploma in a Science background will be an advantage.
 Willing to work Overtime and weekends
 Must be able to work under pressure
 Results orientated
 Accuracy and reliability
 Adaptability
